Welding Technology

The Pratt Community College Welding Technology Program prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to join or cut metal surfaces. Courses include instruction in arc welding, resistance welding, brazing and soldering, cutting, high-energy beam welding and cutting, solid state welding, ferrous and non-ferrous materials, oxidation-reduction reactions, welding metallurgy, welding processes and heat treating, structural design, safety, and applicable codes and standards.

Students will be prepared for AWS certification in SMAW, GMAW and GTAW and FCAW. Additional testing may be required for certification. These certifications will be gained by Lincoln Certification and American Welding Society. Students in the welding program also become forklift certified (FLS) as well as OSHA-10 certified.

PCC Welding Technology is a hands-on program in which students work in a shop environment with industry-level equipment. Students have the opportunity to do real world work projects for customers in the live shop, building the needed work experience that is valuable to the workforce and vital when seeking jobs in industry.

Qualified faculty are industry certified. Through professional development and industry opportunities, these master technicians are constantly learning the latest technology and earning additional certifications vital for ensuring their instruction remains current with industry expectations.

Welding program students from Kansas are eligible for the Kansas Board of Regents Promise Act Scholarship. This scholarship is a last dollar scholarship, which means that a student may receive a scholarship in the amount of aggregate tuition, required fees, books and materials minus all other financial aid (including grants and scholarships) that does not require repayment.
